SWIM
Jostled from bohemian cot
Nestled in the play of
summer people
Who giggle to the rocky shore
Shatter the glass of soporific
sea
Screaming tumbling splash in
frenzied fun
Faces full of palmed pressed
water while
I search for haven safe on this
pirate strand
for my vagabond knick-knacks
No free swim this to horizon
push
To gaze back on welcoming
land
Beckoning towels fluffed.
Shoal-like we circle round
In the receding tide
As abandoned shore withdraws
Against the invisable surge
I push
Though arms and legs entangle
careless thrust
I stretch and crawl for home
alone
through dark surf
DRIFT
Winter's bones linger
On ribbed fields,
Sharp as her bite
Hugging dim hedgerow
Unmellowed in the rising light.
